The differences between monitoring software and content blocking software can be
confusing. But as their names imply, monitoring software is designed to keep track
of what your employees are doing on the Internet while content blocking software
enables you to completely block access to web sites that meet the criteria you define.
As a small business owner in today’s global economy, it’s impractical to think you
can run your business – no matter what you do – without the ability to access the
Internet. Although you cannot cancel your Internet access, you can install software
for monitoring or content blocking. But which should you choose? This article will
help you determine which is better for your small business.
Software Monitoring
Software for monitoring can tell you a lot about the way your employees are browsing
the Internet. Such software usually has the ability to report on the web sites your
employees are visiting, how much time they spend at the different sites, the size
of any files they’ve downloaded, and may even report when employees try to access

Content Blocking
Content blocking software is designed to completely block access to a web site by
blocking a specific URL or by blocking based on specific key words or the type of
